Updated List of (6) Staples!

Since arriving in Texas, we have had to readjust the way we typically shop. We wait until the last minute to pick up produce. Usually it’s marked down (yay us) to clear way for the fresher, weekly shipment of produce. Texas has shown me that it’s time to readjust the staple foods list that I previously posted, here.

  1. Romaine lettuce has to be here. It’s so easy to make a salad. In fact, I have been absolutely in love with fruit salads lately. Romaine is known to have amazing benefits. It has vitamins C and K, promotes muscle strength, and is has a low caloric (17) count.IMG_5221
  2. Tomatoes! Roma or cherry tomatoes are used in our diets. However, Roma are our favorite kind. I read that these are also high in vitamins (C, K, and A), promotes heart health and cancer prevention.
  3. Teff. This ancient grain has been the answer to our dessert prayers. It’s high in nutritional value by containing 8 essential amino acids, calcium and iron. Teff can be an option to control blood glycemic index.IMG_5193IMG_5292
  4.  Apples are an easy choice. I have been adding them to salads and eating them with a hemp- tahini-agave mixture. Apples are filled with antioxidants, prevent gallstones, controls weight, alleviates constipation and diarrhea.
  5. Tahini! I love tahini! We use it for the cookies (pictured above), salad dressings, and the protein mixture. The possibilities are endless. Tahini is a great source of phosphorus, vitamin E and prevents anemia.
  6. Water because it’s essential for just about any diet.
